OGRA denies LPG price hike

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) dismissed circulating rumours about an increase in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices, clarifying that no new price notification has been issued. The regulator reiterated that LPG prices are set and notified once a month under its established pricing mechanism.

OGRA spokesperson Imran Ghaznavi confirmed there is no approved hike in LPG rates and urged the public not to rely on unverified claims circulating on social media.

Official Rates Remain Valid

According to OGRA, the current LPG price structure remains unchanged until a formal notification is published through official channels. The authority advised consumers to always check verified announcements rather than rumours shared online.

The regulator also said it continues monitoring the LPG market to ensure compliance with notified pricing and protect consumer interests.

Reporting Overcharging and Market Concerns

OGRA has called on the public to report any instances where LPG is sold above the lawful price. The authority emphasised it will take action against outlets or distributors found charging more than the official ceiling.

Market observers noted that recent geopolitical pressures have affected energy markets broadly, leading to heightened sensitivity around fuel prices. However, OGRA’s clarification is meant to prevent unnecessary panic or misinformation.

Context: Fuel Prices and Consumer Worries

The clarification comes amid broader concerns about fuel costs in Pakistan. Recent weeks have seen debates around petroleum product pricing and questions from lawmakers about hikes in petrol and diesel, though those reports were also denied or clarified by OGRA and officials.

Consumers still face high costs due to global oil price pressures, but as of now, LPG rates remain as last officially notified.
